Rest, Resistance, and Choosing Ourselves in the End Times 🌈
~* Surgery is forcing me to rest *~
Hey sweaties, friends & loved ones,
I’ve stepped back these last few weeks. I've turned off the news, limited social media, and prioritised my health. My body is relentless. I mentioned on Instagram that I would have surgery within the next year, and it looks like it's coming earlier than expected! With this, I’m in a place where I need to rest. Taking a break, especially now, when the world is crumbling feels counterintuitive. The need to be present, engaged, and productive in times of crisis feels fraught. But my body demands that I listen. So, I’m stepping back to rest—to recuperate, breathe, and let myself be. Time and again, I’ve had to learn that rest is resistance.
Election Exhaustion & Polycrisis Burnout
It’s hard to feel hopeful when the election results roll in and the polycrisis stretches. The exhaustion and helplessness are real. I stare at my screen while the world spins off its axis.
Empires do not fall overnight. I can feel its fractures widening each day. Maybe we’re not equipped for revolution yet and we’re still learning what it means to resist and rebuild.
I want to disengage. But I refuse to be a cog in a machine that doesn’t care if we live or die. I'm stepping away from the panic of the 24/7 cycle of devastation and choosing us instead. This is not easy work and if you’re feeling overwhelmed— you’re not alone. It’s okay to step back, turn off the endless bad news and tend to your exhaustion. We deserve more than just survival—we deserve ease, joy, and moments of stillness.
Join Me at the Free Queer Joy Summit
As part of that quest for joy and community, I’m honoured to be speaking at the upcoming Queer Joy Summit. It’s a free virtual event designed to create space for queer folks to come together, learn, and find moments of connection. My talk ponders decolonization as defiance when everything else seems bleak. The summit is free to attend, and I’d love for you to join me.
There’s also an option to purchase the paid recordings and extra downloadables—an entire bundle of wisdom from all the speakers. Click below to buy because this supports the incredible lineup of voices, helps sustain our work, and ensures we can keep bringing these conversations to our communities.
Reflection Moment: Finding Joy Amidst the Chaos
As I prepare to step away, I invite you to pause—to ask yourself: What’s bringing you joy right now? Where are you finding those moments of lightness, however brief, amidst everything happening? It might be a song you’ve had on repeat, a long meditative walk, or a comfort meal you cooked. These simple pleasures matter.
I’d love to hear from you.
Hit reply and tell me—what’s giving you joy? How are you finding rest, even as the world burns? Let’s share our survival strategies, moments of joy, and ways of staying human.
Anyway, thank you for being here. I’ll limit posting any new essays and instead, mostly clipping small bits of entries from my journal, reflections and fun videos and things that have given me joy. Take care of yourselves—we’re all we’ve got, and that is everything.
Keep resisting.
x,
Christa
omg love this post!! I’m finding joy in candles, cozy blankets, my aquatic frogs, and wearing my fav pair of socks (they are pale blue with yellow suns on them, and they’re the safest feeling cotton ankle socks ever)
what about you?
